Import choice

The import dialog is the central point for importing data from external sources (or other instances of the "Chansonnier" application)into the "Chansonnier".
Choose an import template and enter a file name, press "Import" ... and follow the instructions proposed in the dialogs.
By default, except for the "Restore chansonnier backup" task, an import task never override what you have in your database, it always merges theincoming data with the existing one.

An alternate way to import is to drag-and-drop the files to import on the application. Then the application figures out what is the appropriate importtemplate and launch the corresponding import for the dropped file(s).

Available import templates:

Restore a 'chansonnier' backup.

Restore an exported backup of the 'chansonnier' application data.
You have the choice to:

  • Replace the existing database by the imported one. In this case the modifications done after the backup copy will ne erased. A safety backup is made of the current database file (named 'chansonnier.db4o') before this replacement.
  • Merge the backup with the existing data. In this case, the existing data is preserved (unless specified) and the merged data is added when there was nocorresponding existing data.

Import chansonnier data

Import chansonnier data (songs, songbooks, texts, images) that was previously exported with the "Export chansonnier data" task.
The data is always merged with existing database content and (unless explicitly specified) existing content has always precedence.

Import song from text file

Import song(s) from text(s) files of various format (.txt, .sng, .crd, .html ...).
When the import task cannot figure out was the title and singer of a song is, a dialog is prompted to fill it in.
